Creative Countryside Poetry Submissions

As poetry editor for Creative Countryside magazine I aim to source diverse work with an emphasis on up-and-coming poets.

The ethos of the magazine is simple: Wholehearted slow living.  Embracing the seasons.  The sharing of stories and traditions.  A sensitivity to the environment and the ways in which it might inspire us.  Sincere, unpretentious work.  The best advice I can give to you, which I would advise before submitting to any magazine, is to buy a copy and read it.  If you think your poetry would fit well, it's more likely I will, too.  But if you're still uncertain, see below.

Submissions are currently OPEN for the Autumn/Winter issue. They will close on the 21st of August at midnight.

Poetry Submission FAQ
Does my poem need to be explicitly set in the countryside?
No, but an appreciation for for the natural world that is evident in the work will stand it in good stead.

Does my poem need to explicitly reference the current season?
No, but I will prioritise those poems that fit with the mood of the issue it will be published in.

How many poems can I submit?
A maximum of five per submission please, in either a word document or a pdf, or the body of the email.

My poem has been published before, can I still submit it?
Yes, but I will prioritise work that has not been previously published.  You must clearly state where your poem has appeared in your covering email.

How long will I have to wait to hear back from you?
Because submissions will be pertinent to a particular issue of the magazine, I will judge submissions in one go so that later submissions do not miss out on a spot.  Because of this some replies will take longer to get to you.  But you will always be notified, whether you are successful or not.

How do I submit poems to you?
